Transgender cyclist’s win prompts category changes at event

The Belgian Waffle Ride is waffling about its entry rules after seeing a transgender rider dominate female competitors last month.

After Austin Killips won the event by about four minutes over second-place finisher Paige Onweller, organizers announced a change to the categories in which cyclists will compete.

“Monuments of Cycling and the Belgian Waffle Ride events are committed to ensuring that all participants have equal access and opportunities to participate in our cycling events in a fair manner while preserving the integrity of the sport and respecting international regulations,” a news release read. “The organization does so with the full intent to foster positive, world-class experiences
