Game of Thrones” fans watched in utter horror, and I do mean horror last night as Catelyn, watches her son Rob Stark, Rob’s wife, and the entire Stark clan get wiped out in one of the most shocking twists the series has seen so far.
They call the episode “The Rains of Castamere,” but the name should be “red wedding” because it is, and I do mean IS red.
The quick of it is that Robb Stark and his mother, Catelyn, are at the wedding of his uncle Edmure to one of the let’s say less desirable daughters of Walder Frey the mean King of the Twins. Robb was supposed to do the honers, but decided instead for the irresistible hottie who is pregnant with a soon to be stark king.
The wedding was amazing and the director even provided us with some cute smiles and tears and everything seemed fine. King and Robb agreed that it was time for the bride and groom to “consummate” the wedding and both were whisked off for their ” bedding ceremony”. Then, the doors to the hall close, the musicians begin playing the Lannister anthem “The Rains of Castamere” and the bloodbath begins.
First to die is Robb Stark’s pregnant wife, who is stabbed in the stomach repeatedly. Then a bevy of crossbow-bearing men appear in the balconies and begin firing on everyone below, including Robb and his mother.
In a desperate attempt to save her son, Catelyn with arrows in her grabs Frey’s wife and threatens to cut her throat unless he releases Robb. He smiles and says “Ill find another”.
Then, as Catelyn watches, Roose Bolton stabs Robb through the heart, whispering, “The Lannisters send their regards.” and we see Catelyn’s scream. Only a scream that is from a mother watching her first born son die. It’s horrible to watch.
Catelyn, screaming in rage and despair, cuts the throat of the young queen she was holding hostage. Blood squirts our from her young throat as she falls to the ground, and then a guard cuts into Catelyn’s throat and it was just like old school Chinese Kung Fu flicks.
Arya Stark, who was brought to the Twins by The Hound gets bonked on the heard by the hound and is flung over his shoulder on the way OUT in a hurry.
The final scene of this episode will play out next week in the “Game of Thrones” season 3 finale.
