Providence, Regence BlueCross BlueShield reach deal to keep Oregon hospitals in-network

Monday was the deadline to avoid a split that would’ve resulted in Oregonians with Regence insurance being billed at out-of-network rates at Providence hospitals.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Providence Health and Services and Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon have reached an agreement to keep the hospital system in the insurance provider’s network, ensuring that Oregonians with Regence coverage won’t face out-of-network bills if they visit Providence facilities.

The contract between the two companies expired at the end of last year, but renewal negotiations have been deadlocked for weeks over reimbursement rates, with Providence claiming it needs higher rates to keep up with rising labor and supply costs
