Report: Walmart Drops Kindle

It looks like brick and mortar retailers are getting tired of helping out their online competition: Walmart is dropping Amazon’s Kindle line of electronic book readers, according to Reuters, in what Walmart describes as a move “consistent with its overall merchandising strategy.” Amazon.com, which has had a rocky relationship with its brick-and-mortar competitors since day one, also recently lost Target as a retailer for the device. It looks like brick and mortar retailers are getting tired of helping out their online competition: Walmart is dropping Amazon’s Kindle line of electronic book readers, according to Reuters, in what Walmart describes as a move “consistent with its overall merchandising strategy.” Amazon.com, which has had a rocky relationship with its brick-and-mortar competitors since day one, also recently lost Target as a retailer for the device. Target dropped the Kindle from its lineup back in May. It’s unclear if the moves are related to demand for the device, retailer unhappiness with margins, or just those retailers choosing not to support a competitor.
