There’s something about the Oregon coast that always feels alive. The crashing waves, the salty air, the steady rhythm of the tide. But every so often, that sense of life is met with a quiet, sobering reminder of nature’s other side.
That was the scene Thursday morning near Florence, where a dead gray whale washed ashore not far from the Driftwood Shores area, drawing the attention of beachgoers and prompting a response from state officials.
According to reporting from KLCC, the whale was discovered along the shoreline earlier in the day. Officials with Oregon State Parks confirmed the find and said crews quickly began coordinating a response.
