PORTLAND, Ore. — A wave of grief swept across Portland Friday after thousands of residents received the shocking news that Lloyd Center is closing and, perhaps even more shockingly, learned that Lloyd Center had apparently still been open this entire time.
The longtime Portland mall will close its doors after its final day of operation Saturday, August 8, ending a run that began in 1960. The announcement has prompted an outpouring of memories from Oregonians who fondly recall shopping there, skating there, meeting friends there and then, at some point around 2012, apparently agreeing as a community to never go back.
