A quiet campground tucked into Oregon’s Coast Range has been temporarily closed after a mother black bear and her cub began aggressively searching for food and behaving in ways that raised concerns for visitor safety.
The trouble is unfolding at Fan Creek Campground along the Nestucca River Corridor, roughly 25 miles west of McMinnville. Federal land managers say the two bears have been moving through the campground looking for food, and their behavior has become concerning enough that the Bureau of Land Management decided it was safer to clear the area and keep campers out for the time being.
