New Gluten-Free Brewery Mutantis Has Opened in Woodlawn

Mutantis Is Now Serving Gluten-Free Stouts in Northeast Portland

At the end of last year, West Coast beer vet Jason Yerger — formerly of Ghostfish in Seattle— opened a small bottle shop specializing in gluten-free beers. It offered a variety of options from Oregon’s gluten-free breweries, like Bierly Brewing, Evasion Brewing, Ground Breaker Brewing, and Moonshrimp. By the beginning of this year, however, Yerger was brewing his own gluten-free beer, and now, customers can drink Mutantis’s own sours, stouts, and IPAs on its new patio. To avoid gluten, Yerger brews his beers with things like malted rice, buckwheat, and millet, as well as quinoa and a gluten-free dry yeast.
