Major Flooding Closes HWY 101 South of Seaside, Oregon

Hey there, fellow Oregonians! Just a heads up for anyone planning to hit the road soon – Highway 101 is currently off-limits between Seaside and Cannon Beach Junction. Why, you ask? Well, we’re dealing with some serious flooding here, thanks to the atmospheric river that’s been showering us with relentless rain across the Pacific Northwest.

The situation got pretty intense early this morning, with floodwaters hitting a whopping 10 inches near Cannon Beach. And with high tide rolling in just after dawn, all lanes from Captain Kid Amusement Park to Cannon Beach Junction are underwater. The Cannon Beach Rural Fire Protection District is urging everyone to exercise extreme caution. Remember, our cars aren’t designed to be submarines! If you find yourself in a sticky situation with your car stalling out, stay put and dial 911.

The National Weather Service isn’t taking this lightly either. They’ve issued a flood advisory lasting until the wee hours of Thursday morning, covering most of Northwest Oregon, including our beloved Oregon Coast, the Willamette Valley, and even the Cascade Foothills.

Now, here’s a pro tip from the NWS – be extra vigilant at night. It’s trickier to spot flood dangers in the dark. And please, let’s not try to outsmart those barricades or wade through flooded streets.

Before I sign off, I can’t stress enough how crucial it is to check out TripCheck for any hazardous conditions on your route. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about your safety. Stay informed, stay dry, and above all, stay safe out there!
