Fugitive Logan Storm is believed to still be in the United States, despite having a five-to-eight hour head start on authorities, the U.S. Marshals Service said Friday.

Many people have called in tips about the former Stoller Middle School teacher, who fled the area just hours after a jury found him guilty of possession of child pornography, according to Eric Wahlstrom, Supervisory Deputy for the U.S. Marshals Service. Despite the time lag from when Storm cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet to when authorities were alerted, the investigation suggests he is still in the country, Wahlstrom said. Storm, who is to turn 37 on Monday, does not have his passport.

Storm cut off his electronic monitoring bracelet sometime on Tuesday, authorities said, and the bracelet signaled a possible problem at some point to U.S. Pre-Trial Services, which manages the electronic monitoring program. But officials did not immediately check it out, according to a prosecutor’s account to U.S. District Judge Michael Simon. Authorities went looking for Storm sometime after his midnight curfew when his bracelet showed its location in the Lewis and Clark State Park in Troutdale instead of at his parents’ Southeast Portland home, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Sussman.

Brian Crist, chief U.S. Pre-Trial Services officer for the District of Oregon, declined to comment on what happened.

The U.S. Marshals Service, Department of Homeland Security and others are helping search for Storm, who is to turn 37 on Monday. Storm is described as 6 feet, 2 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds and with brown hair and brown eyes. He was believed to be driving a green Ford F-150 pickup truck with an Oregon license plate of 726 CKA. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-326-2209.
