S&P/TSX composite down more than 200 points, U.S. stock markets also lower

TORONTO — Canada’s main stock index was down more than 200 points in late-morning trading, weighed down by losses in the technology and base metal sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.

The S&P/TSX composite index was down 206.83 points at 33,932.05.

In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 269.70 points at 49,434.77. The S&P 500 index was down 65.50 points at 7,347.34, while the Nasdaq composite was down 403.31 points at 25,870.82.

The Canadian dollar traded for 72.88 cents US compared with 73.17 cents US on Monday.

The June crude oil contract was up US$3.78 at US$101.85 per barrel.
