Sales tax going up in Ridgefield to fund police force expansion

Amid a growing population, Ridgefield city councilors voted to increase the sales tax 0.1% in order to hire two new police officers, among other public safety needs.

RIDGEFIELD, Wash. — Sales tax is going up in Ridgefield.

The Ridgefield City Council voted earlier this month to raise the tax 0.1% in the name of public safety.

In the last legislative session, state lawmakers passed a bill to make it easier to fund local police departments. The bill spawned a $100 million grant program to help get more officers on the street and allows qualifying cities and counties to levy that 0.1% sales tax without
