Beloved Portland vegan bar closing after 13 years

PORTLAND, Ore. — Sweet Hereafter in Southeast Portland is closing at the end of February.

“We had a wonderful 13-year run, but the last few years have been extremely difficult,” Sweet Hereafter said on Instagram. “We lost one of our founders, navigated Covid and weathered many other challenges.”

The restaurant and bar opened in 2011 serving creative cocktails and an exclusive vegetarian and vegan menu featuring mac and cheese and a buffalo-style sub with buffalo-marinated soy curls. It soon became a popular spot on the bustling Southeast Belmont Street commercial strip that includes Stumptown Coffee Roasters, Straight From New York Pizza and Taquería Los Puñales.
