Vancouver Giants star Samuel Honzek injured at World Juniors but team hopes for return for WHL stretch drive

Samuel Honzek’s world junior tournament with Slovakia is finished after taking a skate blade to the back of his leg on Wednesday versus the Americans.

But the Vancouver Giants believe it’s not a season-ending injury for their top scorer.

Giants general manager Barclay Parneta said Thursday that Honzek would be sidelined for “several weeks” but still wanted to speak more to Slovakian team staff before offering up a more concise timeline for a return to action.

A Slovak media report on Twitter has Honzek shelved for four to six weeks.
