Strong second half powers UVic to win over arch rival UBC in Canada West men's hoops semis

The nationally No. 2 ranked UVic Vikes, who are chasing after the first Canadian university men’s basketball title since 1997, moved one step closer to that goal by up-ending the No. 6 UBC Thunderbirds 91-83 Friday in a Canada West semifinal on their CARSA Performance Gym home floor.

The Vikes will host the Canada West final next weekend against the winner of today’s semifinal between the Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons.

The U Sports Final Eight national championship tournament goes March 10-12 in Halifax. <a data-evt="click" data-evt-typ="click" data-evt-val="{"control_fields": {"mparticle": {"keys": {"click_source_type": "click_source_type", "anchor_text": "anchor_text", "target_url": "target_url", "layout_section": "layout_section"}, "mp_event_type": "Navigation", "extra_keys": ["click_vertical_position_percentage", "click_vertical_position_pixels"]}}, "click_source_type": "in-page link",
