Muslims all over the world use the Hijri Calendar to track religious holidays and historical events. According to tradition, the new year can only be officially declared once the crescent moon is sighted after sunset. Waleed Kadray, a Grade 6 teacher at Al-Zahraa Islamic Academy, speaks to CBC News.
