Basketball referees' Pink Whistle cancer research fundraiser breaks $40,000 donation mark this season

The Basketball B.C. Officials Association Pink Whistle/Call a Foul On Cancer campaign raised $2,200 in its first year in 2010.

Fast-forward to this year, and it’s brought in over $200,000 in total. It was sitting at nearly $42,000 in donations for this season alone at last count Thursday morning.

Longtime referee Karn Dhillon, who’s the main organizer, says his group will present a cheque to the B.C. Cancer Foundation during Saturday’s slate of high school girls’ basketball championship games at the Langley Events Centre. They’ll do the same next week during the boys’ championship on Saturday at the LEC.
