What to Do in Washington in August

The final month of summer crams in a season’s worth of outdoor hangs and big festivals. While Seattle goes full Seafair, the rest of the state branches into bicycle, wine, and art events.

Index Arts Festival August 6

Self-described as the smallest town in Western Washington with the biggest views, tiny Index is one of those no-stoplight towns we hear about in our grandparents’ folklore. Nestled along the Skykomish among views of towering Mounts Index, Persis, and Baring, the town rallies to bring dozens of art vendors, food trucks, yoga, live music, and poetry readings to the central town park every summer.
