Washington’s White Wines Are Having a Moment

Washington has long been a red state—when it comes to wines, at least. Reds like cabernet sauvignon, merlot, Syrah, and blends typically receive most of our state’s wine shine. But lately Washington whites have upped their game. 

Vintners are utilizing higher-elevation vineyards to retain freshness, exploring nascent areas, and reconsidering traditionally red-dominated regions. They are working with new varieties and looking at old ones in different ways. The result is white wines with more intention and pizzazz.
