Christopher Hanson arrived at the International Symposium on the Philosophy of Music Education in June of 2019 on a high note. The public school teacher from Texas had just accepted an offer to become the director of music education and orchestral activities at Seattle Pacific University, a small private Christian institution in a city he’d only recently visited for the first time. But before moving to Seattle with his partner for good, he’d decided to attend “the nerdiest thing,” this four-day gathering of music education scholars at Western University in London, Ontario.
