How close is too close for a getaway? Tacoma sits just 25 miles or so south, a mini metropolis about a third the size of Seattle—close enough to be a daily commute, if you get your kicks from I-5 gridlock. But the city next door has been transforming its industrial foundation into a future as a dreamy waterfront destination, where green parks stretch along Puget Sound and Superfund sites are reborn as something beautiful.
