I-5 south in Seattle reopens after crash involving multiple vehicles

All lanes of Interstate 5 (I-5) south in downtown Seattle have reopened after a multi-vehicle collision Monday morning.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, the collision happened just south of Mercer Street at approximately 5:30 a.m. and was blocking all southbound lanes.

As of 8:38 a.m., all lanes continue to be blocked following the earlier collision and the agency “still (does not) know when lanes will reopen.” Traffic still is being diverted to Mercer Street.

WSDOT stated multiple times on X Monday morning that those traveling on I-5 South should seek alternate routes if possible. Those in the area should expect
