Southeast Portland hit-and-run suspect turns himself into police

A man who allegedly hit a pedestrian early Saturday in Southeast Portland with his SUV turned himself into police Sunday afternoon.

Jeffrey Porter, 49, was arrested on a felony-hit and-run charge as well as charges of tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. Portland police found Porter’s 2013 Ford Escape at a local body shop.

Jeffrey Porter, 49, was arrested on a felony-hit and-run charge as well as charges of tampering with evidence and hindering prosecution. Portland police found Porter’s 2013 Ford Escape at a local body shop.

Police say Porter hit an unidentified woman around 3 a.m. Saturday at Southeast 68th Avenue and Division Street. The woman was found injured in the street and was taken to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses told police the driver never slowed down after hitting the woman.

Porter is now in the Multnomah County Jail. An arraignment hearing is set for Monday.
