Lightning struck a Spokane-bound Alaska Airlines flight soon after leaving Portland International AirportTuesday, forcing it to return.

Flight 2356 departed about 5:45 p.m. and was hit about 10 minutes later on the nose and propeller, said Nancy Trott, an airlines spokeswoman.

The Bombardier Q400 continued to function normally after being struck, but returned to Portland International Airport as a precaution, Trott said. None of the plane’s 66 passengers or four crew members were injured.
