A man is displaced following a house fire in Northeast Portland overnight.

Shortly before 2 a.m., neighbors in the 200 block of Northeast Skidmore Street called for help when they noticed a fire at a one-and-a-half story home, according to a release from the Portland fire department.

When fire crews arrived, the house was evacuated and the man who lived there was looked at by paramedics but refused to go to the hospital. His brother met him at the scene.

The fire was contained in about 30 minutes and crews had to tear through the walls to extinguish the last of the flames on the top floor.

It’s suspected that a charcoal barbecue on the front porch may have started the fire. An investigation is pending.
