LONDON Britain’s Treasury chief says that uncertainty over the future of Europe’s single currency is threatening to keep Britain from returning to economic growth.

In an article published in the Sunday Telegraph George Osborne warned that Britain’s attempt to pull itself out of recession “is being killed off by the crisis on our doorstep.”

Although Osborne spoke optimistically about “our recovery,” his Conservative-led government is struggling to pull the country out of its second recession since 2009.

Osborne singled out high energy prices and the debts racked up by the previous government as obstacles to growth, but said that turmoil in the eurozone was the biggest threat of all.

The 17-nation single currency bloc is Britain’s single largest export market.
