Tuna recalled over botulism risk mistakenly shipped to stores in 9 states

The Tri-Union Seafoods tuna was initially recalled last year. The current recall happened after a distributor shipped quarantined cases to retailers.

WASHINGTON D.C., DC — Canned tuna that was recalled last year due to a risk of botulism was accidentally shipped to retailers in nine states, prompting a new recall, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Tri-Union Seafoods issued a voluntary recall in February 2025 of select canned tuna products because of a manufacturing defect that could compromise the product’s seal, potentially leading to contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that causes botulism.
