TORONTO — Strength in the telecommunication and energy sectors helped lift Canada’s main stock index in late-morning trading, while U.S. markets were mixed.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 30.04 points at 25,284.10.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was down 124.93 points at 41,243.52. The S&P 500 index was down 6.75 points at 5,657.19, while the Nasdaq composite was up 8.89 points at 17,937.03.
The Canadian dollar traded for 71.73 cents US compared with 71.91 cents US on Thursday.
The June crude oil contract was up 79 cents US at US$60.70 per barrel and the June natural gas contract was up 21 cents US at US$3.80
