Southeast Portland taqueria severely damaged in Wednesday morning fire

Investigators believe the fire started outside the restaurant and was most likely caused by something like a discarded cigarette.

PORTLAND, Oregon — A family is facing an uncertain future after a fire severely damaged their Southeast Portland taqueria Wednesday morning, forcing the business to close indefinitely.

The fire at El Porvenir, a popular restaurant on Southeast 82nd Avenue known for its $1 tacos, broke out around 6:30 a.m. before owners Mariela Lazaro and Jesus Zacarias arrived to open for the day.
