Southeast Portland staple Tom’s Restaurant closed after fire, vows to rebuild: ‘It means a lot to our family’

Fire crews quickly contained a blaze at Tom’s Restaurant, which opened in 1975. No injuries were reported, but the kitchen remains closed; the bar is open.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Tom’s Restaurant in Southeast Portland is closed until further notice after a fire broke out in its kitchen.

 The restaurant, located on Southeast Division Street, posted a sign on its door informing customers of the closure following the incident.

According to Portland Fire & Rescue, the fire started in the grill area of the kitchen before spreading to the roof. Crews responded quickly and were able to extinguish the flames shortly after arriving, preventing the
