Residents, business owners in Portland’s St. Johns neighborhood push for removal of homeless day center

Multnomah County opened a drop-in center for homeless people in July, but some who live and work nearby say it’s had an immediate negative impact.

PORTLAND, Ore. — In a North Portland neighborhood, the backlash to a new day center for homeless people has been gathering steam, as some small business owners say they’ve been fighting for their lives ever since it opened up — and they didn’t have it easy before.
