Portland’s James Beard Market aims for 2027 opening, 6 months later than scheduled

Planners had hoped to open the long-anticipated James Beard Market by this summer, but it’s been pushed back to 2027.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The opening date for Portland’s first public market in decades that aims to help bolster downtown has been pushed back to next year. 

Planners had hoped to open the James Beard Market by this summer, but now, the full opening date is targeted for early 2027, six months later than planned. 

A spokesperson told KGW in an email that once work began on the site — a former Payless on Southwest 6th and Alder — crews discovered a century-old timber frame
