Portland General Electric lays off 53 full-time employees to manage rising costs

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland General Electric (PGE) laid off 53 full-time employees Tuesday as the utility company works to manage rising costs amid increasing electricity demand and infrastructure investments.

In an email statement to KGW, a PGE spokesperson said the layoffs were part of strategic staffing reductions aimed at keeping customer bills low.

“Society’s need for electricity is growing rapidly at the same time we are transitioning to cleaner energy and strengthening the grid to address the growing risk of wildfire and extreme weather,” the spokesperson
