Oregon’s top lawyers argue against Trump tariffs before appeals court

Since early April, Trump has imposed, revoked and reimposed tariffs on trading partners across the globe, including levies on car and steel imports, coffee and more.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit on Thursday heard arguments in Oregon’s lawsuit challenging President Trump’s global tariffs as an abuse of presidential emergency powers and a move no other president has previously attempted.

Attorneys with the U.S. Department of Justice countered that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act gives the president broad emergency powers.
