Oregon’s Salmon River Hatchery closure raises questions for anglers, local businesses

Citing rising costs for maintenance and lack of funding, the Salmon River hatchery will be closing over the next several years.

OTIS, Oregon — The Salmon River Hatchery is shutting down after decades of operation, leaving big questions for the river, local businesses and the people who depend on both. 

The hatchery has been a popular place for anglers to go since the mid 1970s. Now, because of lack of funding, it’s going to be shutting down.
