Oregon winery dispute leads to major sanctions over AI-generated court filings

An attorney for the winery owners says the penalties may be among the largest in the U.S. tied to fake legal citations.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A family dispute over ownership of a southern Oregon winery is drawing attention to the growing misuse of artificial intelligence in the legal system.

The case centers on Valley View Winery, where four siblings have been fighting over control of the property following their mother’s death.
