Oregon Senate passes bill raising state’s lodging tax to fund wildlife recovery

The bill passed with bipartisan support, despite fierce resistance from the Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association and other business groups.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A strong bipartisan majority in the Oregon Senate passed a bill Wednesday that will hike the state’s transient lodging tax in order to fund projects which help wildlife throughout the state.

Because it includes a tax increase, House Bill 4134 required a three-fifths majority in both chambers to pass. It managed that in the Senate easily, passing 22-9.
