Neighborhood group says decision to allow Oaks Park’s 135.5-foot ‘drop tower ride’ is ‘baffling’

A neighborhood group called the decision “baffling,” saying it failed to require Oaks Park to take all practical steps to reduce impacts on fish and wildlife.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A Portland hearings officer has denied an appeal to block Oaks Amusement Park from adding a 135.5-foot drop tower ride, despite concerns from nearby residents that it would mar scenic views and potentially harm wildlife in the adjacent Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge.

The new ride will be located near the center of the 44-acre park in Southeast Portland, tucked among trees along the Willamette River at the north end of Sellwood Riverfront Park.
