More than 1 million Toyota, Subaru and Lexus vehicles recalled for rearview camera issue

The recall says a software issue may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen while the vehicle is in reverse.

SAN FRANCISCO — Toyota Motor Corporation voluntarily recalled more than 1 million vehicles due to a software issue with the rearview cameras, causing them to not work properly. 

The issue may cause the rearview camera to freeze or display a blank screen while the vehicle is in reverse, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration wrote in the recall announcement. 

“A rearview camera that fails to display an image can reduce the driver’s view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,”
