Legacy Health, Regence standoff leaves patients in limbo as contract expires over ‘unsustainable’ demands

The health system and insurance provider failed to agree to a new contract, making some patients now out-of-network with their providers

PORTLAND, Ore. — Legacy Health and Regence have failed to reach a new contract agreement, leaving tens of thousands of patients in the Portland-Vancouver area facing coverage changes as of Wednesday.

It’s the second major standoff between the two health care giants in two years.

The contract between the Pacific Northwest health system and the regional insurance provider expired after negotiations over reimbursement rates broke down, ending Legacy’s in-network status for Regence members.
