Judge temporarily blocks Nexstar-TEGNA merger from further integration

A U.S. district judge ordered television operator Nexstar Media Group to temporarily keep TEGNA’s assets separate.

WASHINGTON — A U.S. district judge ordered television operator Nexstar Media Group to temporarily keep TEGNA’s assets separate pending a review of the acquisition for potential antitrust violations. 

Chief U.S. District Judge Troy Nunley issued the order Friday in a case brought by DirecTV challenging the merger of two of the nation’s largest broadcast companies. 

The judge said Nexstar must keep TEGNA’s business fully separate and stop any integration work until the court rules further on the underlying antitrust case.
