How an Old Town restaurant provides a leg up to people from a neighboring rescue mission

At Dan & Louis Oyster Bar, kitchen staff trained at the Portland Rescue Mission are finding steady work, stability and a path forward.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A historic Old Town Portland restaurant is helping people get back on their feet by offering them a job.

Many of the cooks dishing up Dan & Louis’ beloved American fare gained experience in the kitchen at the nearby Portland Rescue Mission, including lead line cook Robert Swanson.
