Farmers react to Gov. Kotek’s pause on proposed farm stand rule changes

Many were able to breathe a sigh of relief after the governor’s announcement, made after outcry from some of the state’s most popular family farms.

PORTLAND, Ore. —  A wave of relief swept through Oregon’s farming community Friday after Gov. Tina Kotek announced a pause on proposed farm stand regulations that many feared would threaten their livelihoods.

The proposed draft rules, developed by the Oregon Department of Land Conservation and Development (DLCD), aimed to clarify regulations surrounding farm and farm stand permits — but farmers said the changes would have added complexity and unnecessary burdens to their operations.
