Lawmakers are considering hiking the state’s hotel tax by 1.25% and putting that new funding toward environmental efforts.
SALEM, Ore. — On Thursday, supporters of House Bill 4134 told members of a state Senate committee that Oregon’s tourism industry relies heavily on our wildlife and environment, so it makes sense that an increase in the Transient Lodging Tax would go to conservation.
However, several in opposition argued that a new tax — however small it might seem — would put another burden on an already struggling tourism industry.
