Asbestos exposure closes Trader Joe’s in Southeast Portland

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said it’s responding to an issue at the Cesar Chavez Boulevard location on Wednesday.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The Trader Joe’s store in Southeast Portland closed early Wednesday evening after an “asbestos exposure issue,” according to a release from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

DEQ said it and several other agencies were responding after an asbestos exposure at the Trader Joe’s at 4715 Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard in Portland. The store closed to customers and employees alike around 5 p.m., which was done at DEQ’s request.
