Amazon adds 3.5% surcharge on third-party sellers, citing rising fuel and logistics costs

The 3.5% surcharge is set to go into effect on April 17.

WASHINGTON — Amazon is adding a temporary 3.5% surcharge on third-party sellers in the U.S. and Canada who use the company’s fulfillment services starting April 17. 

The company cites the recent increases in fuel and logistics as the reason behind the added fee. 

The price of fuel has skyrocketed in recent weeks following the U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran on Feb. 28 and subsequent conflict throughout the region, which has disrupted the global oil trade, leading to market volatility. 

Amazon hosts roughly 2 million sellers on its marketplace.
