After retail theft crackdown, some Portland small business owners say they’re not getting help

Multnomah District Attorney Nathan Vasquez vowed that law enforcement agencies’ group effort to fight retail theft will help both large and small businesses.

PORTLAND, Oregon — Local business owners in downtown Portland said they would appreciate more attention spent on small business thefts and burglaries in the wake of Monday’s news of a large-scale retail theft crackdown last week, which was coordinated across law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Portland Police said they arrested 36 people and recovered $3,000 worth of property, and Gresham’s Police Chief Travis Gullberg said his agency made five arrests and recovered $320 worth of merchandise.
