PRINEVILLE, Ore. — Workers at an Oregon Facebook data center reportedly went about their day as usual this week, quietly processing Governor Tina Kotek’s latest criticism of data centers without commenting on the situation.

The post, which warned about the growing demands data centers can place on Oregon’s power grid, water supplies, and local communities, was uploaded to Facebook, routed through Meta’s enormous digital infrastructure, stored on servers, copied across networks, and delivered to thousands of users who were then encouraged to discuss whether Oregon has too many data centers.

Employees inside the facility reportedly noticed the irony but chose to remain professional.
