Oregon voters narrowly approved one of the most restrictive gun-control measures in the country in 2022, adding a government permit requirement for people who want to legally purchase a firearm and banning magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds.
The idea was to make guns harder to obtain.
Oregonians responded by trying to obtain a whole lot more guns.
According to a new study led in part by researchers at Oregon State University and published in the Journal of Public Economics, firearm-related background checks in Oregon increased nearly 14 percent as the Measure 114 election approached, then surged a staggering 157 percent after voters approved it.
