Arctic air threatens Florida’s $7 billion citrus industry.
ATLANTA — As another round of Arctic air pushes into Florida, citrus growers across Lake and Orange counties are preparing for a widespread freeze Friday morning.
“We’re right on the fringe of possible damage,” said Bill Lennon, a fifth-generation citrus grower. “We worry about two things: leaf damage from frost and fruit damage if ice forms inside the fruit.”
Lennon’s farm, Lennon Grove Service, produces about 250,000 boxes of citrus a year, a multimillion-dollar business largely dependent on the weather.
